Phobias involve an intense fear of a specific object, situation, or experience. The level of fear is often far greater than the actual risk involved, yet it can feel overwhelming and difficult to control. As a result, many people begin to avoid the feared situation or anything associated with it, which can lead to significant distress and interfere with daily life.

Phobias are treated with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
ERP is a highly effective and science backed treatment for phobias, allowing you to learn skills to respond more effectively when anxiety around your phobia shows up, which puts you in control. Through ERP, fears are approached gradually and systematically, at a pace that is collaborative, intentional, and tailored to each individual.
Phobia treatment is individualized
To make exposure work as effectively as possible, therapy is tailored to each person’s specific fears and level of distress. Exposure may include imaginal exposures, where clients intentionally bring up feared thoughts or scenarios in a guided and supportive way, and real life exposures that involve gradually facing feared situations.
Its also important to reduce reliance on safety behaviors to feel better in the moment. With practice, clients learn that they can tolerate discomfort and uncertainty without needing to neutralize it, leading to more lasting relief and greater flexibility over time.
